- New Year's Eve at the Capitol
This is what the California State Capitol Building looked like on New Year's Eve 2014. The state Christmas tree, with it's beautiful star tree-topper is on the right.
This was taken with my very special Christmas present, a new Nikon D5300 camera with kit 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses. I also have learned how to stack images in Photoshop, and this image is a stacked collection of 5 images in total. These were taken at ISO 2000 with the telephoto lens at at f/10 @ 1/20 sec; f/4.5 @ 1/160 sec, 1/80 sec, 1/40 sec, and 1/25 sec to give a variety of exposures for the stacked result.
- April 2014 Lunar Eclipse (1/2)
Photograph of the "Blood Moon" during the 14/15th of April lunar eclipse. The Moon was located in the constellation Virgo, and the bright star next to the Moon is Spica.
Fortunately, the sky was clear at this time, though high clouds had occluded the view before and shortly after this. These two photos were taken at 1:04 and 1:06 AM, and the peak was around 12:45 AM, so you can see a little white reappearing at the bottom of the Moon as it starts to move out of the Earth's shadow.
I took this photo in a park near my home, and the automatic irrigation sprinklers turned on as I was taking the last photo. I got a little soaked, but I managed to keep the camera mostly dry.
This was taken with my Olympus FE-4000 point-and-shoot digital camera using a tripod and the night mode setting. I wish the camera would accommodate a telephoto lens so I could have gotten a closer view. The viewfinder didn't show me anything until I pressed the shutter button to snap the picture. I had to use my cell phone camera placed atop the camera to orient it in the right direction, and then take multiple photos with the Olympus, making minor corrections in alignment after each shot, to get the Moon and Spica centered in the frame.

- Ad Astra per Disciplina et Scientia with Gulls
"Ad Astra per Disciplina et Scientia" means "To the stars through study/discipline and knowledge/science" (at least that's what I believe it means, not actually ever having studied Latin). It seemed appropriate given my return to college and my studies in computer science and engineering. This Facebook cover photo was cropped from a larger photo of the Sacramento River Marina, where these gulls were flying around searching for food. The sun flare was Photoshopped into the picture to better tie in with the quotation.
This composite digital image by Will Murray ("Willscrlt") was completed at 11:39 PM on Monday, 9 April 2012. The included photo (DSC00971) of flying gulls was taken by Will Murray ("Willscrlt") at 10:35 AM on 19 January 2009 at the Sacramento Marina on Marina View Dr.

- Celebrate the New Year (2008-12-31 DSC00880)
Celebrate the New Year, but please celebrate responsibly! Pick a designated driver or take a taxi. Don't drink and drive.
I stopped by Costco this morning to pick up a pumpkin pie for tonight's dinner (probably the last one for the season *cry*). I thought that these wine bottles might make a nice photo. Ironically, I didn't buy any alcohol. We will be celebrating the new year with sparkling peach juice. Yummy!
The warehouse lights are not the best lighting, so I touched up the color a bit in Photoshop on my laptop--the first time I've used my laptop for color tweaking, so hopefully its calibration is pretty close to right. I also blanked out the prices and item numbers on this low-res image to make it a bit more reusable.

Sacramento Photowalk: Sacramento Elk's Lodge at Night - Near (DSC00778)
I had planned to attend the Sacramento photowalk the night before, but couldn't attend. So the following night my dad and I went on our own brief photowalk and these are the results. A view of the Elks Lodge building from the northwest corner of the 11th and J streets intersection. This is one of the tallest "old building" in downtown with about 14 stories total. The red lights make for a dramatic view. LICENSING ©2008-2009 by Will Murray ("Willscrlt") willmurray.name/ This photo is CC-BY-SA-3.0-US licensed. I had planned to attend the Sacramento photowalk the night before, but couldn't attend. So the following night my dad and I went on our own brief photowalk and these are the results. A view of the Elks Lodge building from the southern side of J street between 10th and 11th street. This block is filled with vacant, boarded up storefronts and hotels. I was glad that I wasn't alone taking these pictures, though there was nothing particularly alarming about the people we saw.
