Caribbean Birds
A collection of carved tropical birds that used to belong to my grandparents. The tucan is from Aruba, the large parrot on the left only says "DC" on the bottom, the red and green parrots also are from Aruba, the yellow one is from Bonaire.

Happy St. Patrick's Day
Happy St. Patrick's Day / Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Daoibh

This is my own take on a hand-drawn Leprechaun's Hat with a black band and golden buckle. It includes the Gaelic phrase for "Happy St. Patrick's Day" under the hat, and there is light shading all around the hat to make an overall circular shape to the design.

This obviously is more of a U.S.-centric St. Patrick's Day motif than a traditional Irish one. After all, the color associated with St. Patrick is blue, not green. And, leprechauns traditionally wear cocked-hats (like a tricorne) or possibly derbies. However, here in the U.S. our wee folk seem to dress in green and prefer this style of hat. :-)

This image became my Twitter background image on Earth Day 2012 (22 April). I found the beautiful blowing ornamental grass growing at the base of a skyscraper in downtown Sacramento. I added some texture filters and a slight blur to the photo to give it more of an artsy feel.

Branches of the Same Tree with Arching Branch
In 1937, Albert Einstein stated that "All religions, arts, and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man's life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom. They seek to fulfill this great task by spreading moral and cultural understanding, renouncing the use of brute force." I used that quote on this, my first Facebook cover photo on my new FB Timeline. The photo of an oak forest, focusing on one tree with a beautiful curving branch, seemed like a perfect illustration for the branch in Einstein's quote. The photo was taken at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center.

Faux Neon Cocktails Sign
This is a stylized imitation of a vintage neon "Cocktails" sign with a blue martini glass, yellow pick with a green olive and red pimento, and the word "Cocktails" in hot pink across it. The entire image is tilted at a jaunty angle (or is the viewer just a bit tipsy?).
